VENIQUE
The world was ablaze, molten lava coursing through the ground like rivers of flame. The sky bled red, and the air was thick and suffocating—perfect conditions for the demons that thrived in chaos. In the midst of it all, a lone figure stood defiant against a legion.
"Give up, Venique," General Draegan sneered, his black eyes aflame with rage. "You cannot win. There are hundreds of us and only one of you."
Draegan was a high-ranking demon, his green skin glistening with sweat and fury. His broad nose twitched with anger, fangs glinting from both his upper and lower jaws. Two long, black horns curved upward from his skull, his flowing black hair tangling in the wind. He wore blood-red armor and a matching cape, his sword—a long, deadly blade encrusted with diamonds and rubies—gripped tightly in his hand.
Venique threw her head back and laughed, a cold, sharp sound that echoed over the battlefield. "You said the same thing when there were five hundred of you. And look where that got you." Her icy blue eyes sparkled with wicked mirth as she surveyed the pile of demon corpses around her. "This isn’t a battle, Draegan. It’s a massacre. Surrender now, and maybe I’ll spare what’s left of your pathetic army."
Her wings—massive, pristine white feathers—unfurled behind her, casting a striking contrast against her obsidian-black skin. Standing at seven feet tall, Venique was an imposing sight. Her long, flowing white hair fluttered in the heat of the battle, and her pointed ears and fangs marked her as a fierce warrior. She wore gleaming black armor, etched with intricate white designs, and a bloodied sword dripped in her left hand. On her back, a bow and arrows rested, waiting for the next strike. Her black tail, tipped with a sharp, white arrowhead, swayed in anticipation.
Draegan’s face contorted in frustration. Hundreds of his soldiers lay dead at her feet, cut down by the king’s daughter—a demon who had refused to torture a human and, in doing so, had betrayed her kind. She was supposed to be weak and didn't look like other demons, she sure as hell didn't act like one. But here she stood, more powerful than anyone could have imagined.
"Attack!" Draegan, gripping his sword. His men hesitated for only a moment before they charged at Venique from all sides.
Venique grinned. "Well, it seems you all have a death wish." With expert precision, she danced through the fray, her sword a blur of silver slicing through demon flesh. One by one, her enemies fell, their lives ending at the edge of her blade.
Minutes later, only thirty demons remained.
"You... witch!" Draegan spat, blood trailing from the various wounds littering his body. His soldiers were gone, their corpses strewn across the fiery battlefield. He tightened his grip on his sword and lunged for Isabella’s neck. But before his strike landed, his blade shattered. The broken half of the sword flew through the air, impaling one of his soldiers through the eye to the back of his head. He Dropped to his knees and then collapsed on the ground.
Stunned silence followed. Then, all eyes turned to a third figure.
She stood tall—seven feet like Venique—her skin a deep crimson red, her black eyes glowing with a dangerous light. Her fangs gleamed beneath the shadow of her sharp, pointed ears. Her long black hair swirled around her as she lowered a glowing black sword, the weapon responsible for shattering Draegan’s blade.
All around, demons dropped to their knees.
"My queen..." Draegon whispered, his voice trembling.
"Silence," Seraphina commanded, sheathing her sword. She turned to Venique, her expression softening as she sighed. "Rise, child."
"Hello, Mother," Venique said, getting to her feet with a smirk. "Fancy meeting you here."
Lilith smiled slightly, always charmed by Venique’s ease despite any situation. "I’ve heard what you’ve done, my child."
"I refuse to torture an innocent human just to amuse Father and the others."
"And you chopped off your brother’s hand in the process."
"He was in my way." Venique shrugged. "Besides, it’ll grow back."
Seraphina sighed again, gently holding her daughter’s chin. "Because I love you, I’m going to banish you to the human world."
Venique's eyes widened in shock. "What?!"
Seraphina’s expression softened. "Listen to me, child. I fought for your life, but your father refuses to let you stay. His only concession was that if I banish you, he’ll leave you be. I can’t lose you, not like this."
Venique’s voice dropped, her resolve wavering. "Mother..."
"You don’t belong here, Venique," Seraphina said gently. "You’ve always been different. You’ll find peace in the human world. Maybe... you’ll even find your mate."
Venique sighed, her eyes brimming with emotion. "I’ll miss you."
"And why would you?" Seraphina smiled. "I’ll visit often. And if you ever need me, you know how to summon me."
Stepping back, Seraphina unwrapped her sword from her waist and handed it to Venique. "Take this. It has served me well, and now it will serve you."
Venique stared at the sword in disbelief. "But it’s yours..."
"Child, I’ll make another. It's time to go."
With one final, tender touch to her daughter's forehead, Seraphina sent Venique away. In an instant, Venique found herself standing in the middle of a house, holding her mother’s sword.
